When you walk onto our mats you will see a whole range of body types and ages with a varied skill and experience level but they are all very welcoming and they were all beginners at one stage too.

What is Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ)?

TLDR version……..Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is for everyone. Yes, it is a martial art but without kicks, strikes or punches, instead you use your body to force your opponent (or training partner) to give up or “submit” to you. The beauty of BJJ over other martial arts is you have less chance of getting injured because you always have the ability to stop at any time by “tapping out”, this also allows BJJ practitioners to train well into their old age. As you progress “tapping out” also allows you to train (or “roll” or spar) at almost 100% without the fear of injuries.

“Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is the adult version of play wrestling with your mates when you were 10 years old” -a quote from one of our members (sounds weird but it’s true)

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is the absolute best way to get your exercise quota in, you burn an incredible amount of calories (one of our members calls it their cheat code for keeping off the pounds!)

What do I need to bring my first class?

Yourself (maybe a friend 😉) and shorts and Tshirt is fine to wear, please take along a pair of flip-flops if you have them. Take some water too and remove or cover any piercings and jewellery. Break out the nail clippers and trim finger and toe nails. Smell nice, try be as friendly as you can and try have some fun.

We understand that jumping into a new thing can be tough but with our beginners classes you are mixed with people in the same boat or who were in that boat a short time ago. Our guys are fantastic with new members and for sure you should feel comfortable because we all were just like you and remember how it feels.
